About Phyllis

Poems from Phyllis Nikbakht

       ??

I took a walk across my mind
Searching hard to try to find
My Soul!
I ran into conscience
Along the way...and
This is what
It had to say
Hello my friend
What troubles Thee?
Life!, I said
Won't set me free
It drags me down to great despair
No pleasure have I
From being here...
Then again spoke conscience
Loud and bold
There's a story
You have not yet told
So stay a while...and
Together we can travel
That last mile.

The Eagle

The Eagle shows a tear
In his keen sighted eye
He must try to fight it
Before he takes to the sky.

His intention is
To put man on trial
Accusing him of being
Ruthless and vile!

Reflecting on his image
While keeping composure
He goes on to point out
Peace on earth it is over

Conscious of his own visage
He cries for the way
The earth had been pillaged-by
Mans lust for the day!

He tells of the way
He had soared o'er the sky
Meandering freely
Without fearing to die.

At the thirteenth hour
The judge raised his gavel
Yelling! What kind of story
Are you telling

The stupidity of man
Was the Eagle's response
He has destroyed the earth
We don't have a chance!

I watched his anger intensify
When he spoke of his perils in the sky!
Of how his life became endangered
How he and the wolf had become strangers.

They had travelled the Earth
Side by side in their day
The wolf on the land.
The Eagle at bay.

Admiring each others
Course of direction
Secretly treating it
With great affection.

They shared their prey
Each with the other
What one didn't need
He gave to his brother.

Then his voice rose to
To a very high pitch
When he pointed out
Earth has become a putrid ditch.

A dumping ground
For human debris
They've polluted the land
They've polluted the sea.

Then he went into a reverie
That was so divine
As he travelled the road
Back into time.

A time when Eden was a place
Of great calm
Where unicorns roamed free
Safe from harm

Where fruits of the earth
Were all part of nature
To nurture and feed
All living creatures

Until that awful day
When the earth shook with evil
In slithered a creature-causing
Chaos...Great upheaval!

All innocence was taken
They were made to feel shame
Life in Eden
Was never to be the same.

Then man became mortal
His body defiled
His fate had been sealed
Now he must die!

Then up spoke the Hawk
On his view from the sky
Saying it was not easy
To turn a blind eye.

On earth and man
And that terrible day
How he wished to himself
It would all go away.

But he was a predator
He had to fend for himself
He partook of the wine
He partook of the flesh.

Yet he mourned loss of innocence
That opened up hell
How soul after soul
Tumbled into that well

Up to now the serpent
Is winning the race
Evil is growing
Yet we won't face-truth!

Christ will come
To put an end to all sorrow
Giving mankind hope
For a new tomorrow.

The judge was silent
As he reflected this day:
He put down his gavel
And walked meekly away!
As the Hawk and the Eagle
Side by side
Soared off to the Heavens.
And the Eagle cried!
